HURON — Huron sophomore Devin Hunter will compete with the 16U Team South Dakota in the USA Hockey Tier II National Tournament, which begins Thursday and continues to May 3 in Denver, Colo.

Despite being selected to Team South Dakota three times, this will be the first opportunity for Hunter to play in the national tournament.

“Team South Dakota has given me the chance to play with some really great players of all skill levels from across the state,” Hunter said. “I am really looking forward to going to Denver and skating against some of the top talent from states across the United States.”

Team South Dakota consists of 20 girls from 10 different communities. In the national tournament, teams from 12 different states will compete in three rounds of pool play, with the top teams advancing to the championship round.

“Being selected to play on Team South Dakota has helped me evolve in my hockey career,” Hunter said. “It has changed the outlook on how I play, it is a great way to learn and gain exposure to different coaches throughout the state.”

Team South Dakota will open play at 9:15 a.m. Thursday against Central NT Bobcats. Addition information on the tournament can be found at
