Huron 13U sweeps Brookings in twinbill

BROOKINGS - The Huron 13U Teener team traveled to Brookings and swept a pair of games Tuesday against Brookings’ Bombers Maroon team.

The first game kicked off with a bang, as Huron scored nine runs in the top of the second inning, only to have the home team answer with six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers were able to add two runs in the fourth and six in the sixth to seal a 15-10 victory.

Jeremy Hofer opened the game on the mound for Huron, lasting 1 2/3 innings, allowing five runs and striking out a pair of Brookings batters. Landon Schutt relieved him, tossing 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out two.

Blaise Simmon allowed three runs without recording an out before Cooper Bischoff finished off the game with a perfect inning of relief.

Offensively, Huron totaled 16 hits and eight stolen bases on the day. Gavin Waldner and Davis Chase led the way with three hits each, with one of those three knocks going for a triple. Chase added a pair of stolen bases to his game totals.

Chase Schuchhardt, Cooper Bischoff, and Schutt each had a pair of singles. Schuchhardt and Cooper Bischoff had a pair of stolen bases, while Schutt and Hunter Fenske each stole a base as well.

The visitors struck first in the second game as well, as Huron scored two runs in the top of the first inning and would never surrender the lead, coming away with a 9-3 victory.

Parker Bischoff tossed a complete game, going four innings, allowing three runs, and striking out two Bombers Maroon hitters.

No Huron hitter had multiple hits in the nightcap, but Waldner had a triple and Hofer powered a double.

Chase and Diego Colon each stole two bases in the game, and Waldner added a steal as well.

Huron evens its season record at 12-12 with the victories and will travel to Mitchell Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
