Huron battles to 0-0 draw against unbeaten Chargers

SIOUX FALLS — Huron’s defense rose to the occasion on Thursday during a boys’ soccer match against Sioux Falls Christian.

The Tigers weren’t able to come away with a win, but they were able to hold Sioux Falls Christian, which had scored 33 goals during its first three games, scoreless for a 0-0 draw.

“It was a hard fought battle tonight in Sioux Falls. Our boys battled a much larger team for 80 minutes,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “Our defense and goalie did a great job denying shots and goals tonight and was able to get the shutout.”

Micah Larson had six saves to earn the shutout in the net for the Tigers, who are now 2-1-1.

Despite being unable to put the ball in net, Branaugh said some positives came out of the game against the Chargers, who are now 3-0-1.

"We changed our formation and did well moving the ball but couldn’t get the ball through their defense to score,” she said. “We have some things we need to work on before we play Aberdeen on Tuesday.”

The junior varsity game between the two teams on Thursday also ended in a 0-0 draw.

Jaxon Andru recorded two saves in the net for the Tigers.

Huron will host Aberdeen Central at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.
