BROOKINGS — Will Radke was one of several runners to turn in personal record times for the Huron Tigers during the Eastern South Dakota Conference Cross Country Meet, which was held Monday at Edgebrook Golf Course.
“It was an awesome day to be a Huron Tiger. It was a perfect day to run,” Huron coach Angie Thomas said. “It was definitely muddy and wet in spots, but it was still great.
Radke, who was the lone varsity runner for the Tigers, turned in a time of 18:30.7 to finish 31st in the 71-runner field for the boys’ varsity race.
Aaron Ryan of Aberdeen Central had the top time in the boys’ varsity race at 16:16.9, while Britton Elkin of Brandon Valley was second at 16:23.4.
Aberdeen Central won the ESD boys’ title with 26 points, while Brandon Valley was second at 54. Harrisburg was third at 70, followed by Yankton at 100, Pierre at 155, Brookings at 163, Watertown at 196 and Mitchell at 227.
Ellie Abraham of Brookings was the ESD champ in the girls’ varsity race with a winning time of 18:36.8. Mia Wentzy of Brandon Valley was second at 18:53.8, while Presli White of Harrisburg was third at 19:27.8.
Brandon Valley had a score of 46 points to claim the ESD girls’ team title. Harrisburg was second at 70, followed by Brookings at 72, Aberdeen Central at 75, Yankton at 115, Pierre at 148, Watertown at 184 and Mitchell at 238.
Tori Buffington and Brooklyn Boetel had personal records to finish first and second, respectively, for Huron in the junior varsity girls’ race with times of 16:44.9 and 17:09.3.
“The girls ran with a lot of guts today,” Thomas said.
Cheech Harmon was seventh for the Tigers in the JV boys’ race at 14:57.4, while Angel Olivo-Porcayo was 10th at 15:01.9.
“Cheech Harmon ran a PR and came in seventh,” Thomas said. “Angel Olivo Porcayo ran a personal best this season to grab the 10th spot. Gonzalo Quispe-Laura didn’t place in the top 15, but he ran a really good race, as well.”
TJ Lien won the middle school boys’ race for Huron with a time of 10:55.4, while Will Knippling was seventh at 11:13.9.
“A Pierre runner and TJ swapped position for the lead a few times, but the final hill was what mad ethe difference,” Thomas said. “TJ was the first to the top and then he pulled away on the final spring to the finish. He ran a gutsy race.
“Will Knippling ran an awesome race as well, putting him in the top 10,” she said. “Cameron Cutshaw was the next Huron Tiger to finish and he had a strong finish.”

Tatum Peterson was fifth for the Tigers in the middle school girls’ race with a time of 12:38.3.
“I’m really proud of her effort today. She ran hard,” Thomas said of Peterson. “Hannah Schoenfelder, Josie Vlieger and Ellie Puterbaugh didn’t place in the top 15, but they had a great race as well.”
The Huron cross country team will close the regular season with the Roger Loecker Invite at 4 p.m. Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
