Huron eighth-graders win title at Big 4 Tournament

BROOKINGS — The Huron eighth-grade volleyball team went 3-0 on Saturday to claim its second consecutive Big 4 Tournament championship.
The Tigers, who finished the season 13-1, defeated Watertown with set scores of 25-17 and 27-25; Brookings with set scores of 25-16 and 25-11; and Mitchell with set scores of 25-17 and 25-16.
Members of the current eighth-grade team also won the Big 4 title as seventh-graders.
Brynn Gose had 12 kills and eight aces to lead the Tigers during the tournament, while Heavan Gainey had 11 kills and four aces. Karsyn Kopfmann and Isabelle Ellwein both finished with seven kills and four aces, while Bryn Huber had 40 assists, three kills and three aces. Kaydence Tschetter also had an ace.

Seventh-grade
BROOKINGS — The Huron seventh-grade volleyball team went 1-2 on Saturday.
Watertown recorded a 2-0 win against the Tigers with set scores of 35-19 and 25-10.
Ireland Hennrich was perfect on nine serves with an ace for Huron, while Madison Hershman also had an ace on 6 of 7 serving and Jaelyn Hamilton was 5 of 6 serving. Hamtyn Heinz was 6 of 6 hitting.
The Tigers rebounded with a 2-0 victory against Brookings using set scores of 25-21 and 25-14.
Heinz had four aces on 19 of 19 serves and was 13 of 13 hitting with four kills. Kelsey Schuchardt was 10 of 13 serving with two aces and Hershman had an ace onf 4 of 5 serves.
Mitchell used set scores of 25-23 and 26-24 to get past Huron in the final match.
Heinz was perfect on eight serves with two aces and was 6 of 6 hitting. Hamilton had a pair of aces on 4 of 6 serving and had a kill on 4 of 4 hitting, while Hershman was 8 of 9 serving with two aces.
Schuchardt and Kiki Eagle Star were both 6 of 9 serving with an ace, while Hennrich was 4 of 6 serving with an ace.
