Huron golfers compete in 2022 Mitchell Invitational

MITCHELL — In one of the first events the Huron boys’ golf team was able to qualify for a team score, the Tigers finished 19th in the 20-team field Friday in the Mitchell Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course.

O’Gorman won the event with a 287, which put them 11 strokes ahead of second-placed Harrisburg. Watertown was third at 306, followed by Sioux Falls Jefferson at 309 and Mitchell at 312.

Huron finished at 397.

Using a victory in a sudden-death playoff on the second playoff hole, jack Hilgenberg of Sioux Falls Lincoln claimed the medalist honors. He finished the 18 holes of regulation play with a 69, along with Liam Sarmienta of O’Gorman.

Jake Olson of Watertown was third at 70, while Hayden Scott of Harrisburg and Andy Noble of Sioux Falls Jefferson shared the fourth spot with scored of 71.

Jack Bales and Aiden Zavesky had scores of 95 for the Tigers to finish in a five-way tie for 93rd.

Rounding out the lineup for Huron were Riley Jankord at 98 and Linh Vu at 109.

Next up for the Tigers is the Watertown Invitational on Tuesday.
