Huron golfers finish 12th in opener

BRANDON — The Huron boys’ golf team opened the season with a 12th place finish in the Metro Invite on Monday at Brandon Municipal Golf Course.
Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls O’Gorman all finished with scores of 309 to share the top spot in the team standings.
Spearfish was fourth at 316, followed by Watertown at 319 and Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 320.
The Tigers had a score of 353 to finish a stroke ahead of Brookings and Sioux Falls Washington in the 15-team field.

The race for the individual title also ended in a tie. Jack Lundin of Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Ethan Vikander of Aberdeen Central had scores of 73 to share the top spot.
Adam Schrader of Sioux Falls Lincoln and Ben Daane of Rapid City Stevens shared the third spot with scores of 74. Will Allen of Harrisburg, Nash Stenberg of Sioux Falls Lincoln and William Sanford of Sioux Falls O’Gorman all had scores of 75 to finish tied for fifth.
Jacob Wehde led Huron with a score of 81, which placed him in a seven-way tie for 31st.
Mason Rozell carded a 92 for the Tigers to share the 70th spot, while Will Smith was 76th with a 95 and Nathan Gauer tied for 78th with a 97.
Rounding out the lineup for Huron was Marty Boetel with a 110.
The Tigers will compete in the Brandon Valley Invite at 9 a.m. today and make their home debut with a meet against Mitchell on Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
