Huron golfers finish 14th in Class AA State Tournament

BROOKINGS — A 14-stroke improvement helped the Huron boys’ golf team move up one spot during the final round of the Class AA State Tournament on Tuesday at the Brookings Country Club.
After shooting a 362 on Monday, the Tigers used a 348 through the final 18 holes of play to finish at 710. The improvement moved Huron from 15th to 14th in the final standings.
Sioux Falls Lincoln used a score of 299 on Tuesday to leapfrog Rapid City Stevens and claim the Class AA state title with a two-day total of 606. The Raiders slipped to second with a 610, while Sioux Falls Roosevelt was third at 625. Rounding out the top five were Spearfish at 630 and Yankton at 635.

Ryan Neff of Sioux Falls Lincoln won the individual state title with a score of 145. After shooting 74 in the opening round, he finished with a 71 on Tuesday.
Adam Salter of Rapid City Stevens and Kevin Kolb of Spearfish shared the second spot with scores of 149, while Ben Daane of Rapid City Stevens and Jack Lundin of Sioux Falls Roosevelt had scores of 150 to finish tied for fourth.
Landon Roberts was the top Huron golfer in the 105-golfer field. After shooting 87 on Monday, he turned in an 84 on Tuesday for a total of 171 to finish tied for 52nd.
Mason Rozell equalled his first round total of 86 in the second round to finish at 172 and tied for 55th for the Tigers. Jacob Wehde shaved two strokes off his first round score with an 87 on Tuesday to finish 68th at 176.
Huron’s biggest jump came from Nathan Gauer, he dropped nine strokes during the second round with a 91 to finish 85th at 191.
Rounding out the lineup for the Tigers were Will Smith at 203 and Marty Boetel at 212.
