Huron golfers finish fifth at Hub City Invite

ABERDEEN — The Mitchell Kernels put three golfers in the top six Thursday at the Hub City Invitational, en route to the team title, with a score of 39 over par. O’Gorman was six strokes back and the host Aberdeen Central team was a distant third at 63 over par.

The Huron Tigers finished fifth in the field with a team score that was 101 strokes over par.

O’Gorman’s Shannon McCormick shot an even-par 72 to take medalist honors, while Danielle Podoll of Aberdeen Central was second with a 76, four strokes over par.

Mitchell golfers Masey Mock and Allison Meyerink finished third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 78 and 80. Huron was led by Bryn Huber’s 81, putting her in seventh place at the event. Karlie Bigelow as 15th with a 92 and Kenya Bigelow shot a 107 for 27th place. Libby Picek rounded out the Tigers scorers with a 109, in 29th place.

Huron’s varsity returns to action May 6, when the Tigers host the Huron Invitational at Broadland Creek. The JV team hosts its invitational on May 3. Both events tee off at 10 a.m.
