HARRISBURG — With two golfers inside the top 20, the Huron boys’ golf team finished seventh during the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet on Monday at the Spring Creek Country Club.
With three of the top 10 golfers in the field, Aberdeen Central claimed the ESD championship with a score of 308. Watertown was second at 314, while Harrisburg was just a stroke back in third.
Pierre used a 318 to finish fourth and was followed by Brandon Valley at 325, Yankton at 330, Huron at 332, Brookings at 347 and Mitchell at 352.
“Overall, I was pretty pleased with our team score,” Huron coach Chris Rozell said. “It was a little under our average, so it was a pretty good day overall.”
Austin Hoss of Pierre claimed the medalist honors with a 66-under par 66, while Jonah Dohrer of Aberdeen Central was just a stroke back in second.
Jacob Whitlock of Watertown was third at 74, while Karter Lein of Harrisburg was fourth at 74.
Huron’s Nolan Wiegel carded a 75 to claim a share of the fifth spot with a 75, along with Kade McTighe of Pierre.
“Nolan had a good day. He started out three over, got it back to even later in the round and finished at three over,” Rozell said. “Overall, I think he had a good day.”

Mason Rozell turned in an 81 for the Tigers to finish tied for 16th.
“Mason shot better today with an 81, which put him one stroke out of All-Conference,” Rozell said of his son. “He was one stroke shy, but overall I think he had a pretty positve day.
“It was probably his lowest round of the year, so I was happy to see that,” he said. “Going into state, hopefully that propels him forward.”
Will Smith had an 85 to share the 28th spot, while Landon Roberts, Jacob Wehde and Nathan Gauer finished at 91, 92 and 93, respectively.
“Will Smith had another solid round with an 85,” Rozell said.
Huron, along with the rest of the Class AA teams, will close the season at the State Meet in Pierre on Oct. 2-3.
