Huron golfers finish sixth in Watertown Invitational

WATERTOWN — Jayda Shillingstad, who is the lone senior on the Huron girls’ golf roster, turned in a top-15 outing to earn a medal during the Watertown Invitational on Monday at Prairie Winds Golf Course.
Shillingstad opened with a 47 on the front nine and then matched that effort on the back nine to finish with a score of 94 to lead the Tigers. She finished just three strokes outside of the top 10.

Sydney Wirebaugh of Aberdeen Central claimed the medalist honors with a 76, which put her seven strokes in front of second-placed Brooke Piearson of Brookings, who shot an 83.
Megan Parsons of Harrisburg was third with an 84, followed by Cassidy Gough of Aberdeen Central at 94 and Brooklyn Hofer of Aberdeen Central at 87.
Karlie Bigelow carded a 97 for Huron, while Kenya Bigelow and Mattie Huber both finished at 107.
With four of the top six golfers in the tournament, Aberdeen Central won the team title with a score of 334. Harrisburg was a distant second at 363, followed by Pierre at 369. Huron was sixth with a  406.
