PIERRE — Karlie Bigelow shot an 83 to finish seventh for the Huron girls’ golf team as it opened its season Tuesday at the Pierre Invitational.
The Tigers were seventh in the eight-team field with a score of 378, but coach Chris Rozell was encouraged with what he saw out of his team.
“I am very happy with how the girls played today,” he said. “With very limited practice time outdoors, they performed very well.”
Using a score of 83, Karlie Bigelow finished just three strokes out of a top-3 finish in the meet to lead Huron.
“Karlie Bigelow placed seventh to bring home a medal,” Rozell said.

Cassidy Gough of Aberdeen Central led the field with a score of 73, which put her five strokes in front of runner-up Emmy Sund-by of Rapid City Stevens. Ainsley Sabers of Sturgis was third with an 80, followed by Annabelle Simpson of Pierre at 81, Danielle Podoll of Aberdeen Central at 82 and Kailee Henglefelt of Mitchell at 83.
Bryn Huber was 17th for the Tigers with an 89, while Kenya Bigelow was 23rd with a 92.
Libby Picek rounded out the lineup for Huron with an 111, which put her in the 49th spot.
“Libby Picek had a great day in her first varsity meet,” Rozell said. “I was proud of the way she played today.”
Aberdeen Central claimed the team title with a total of 325, while Pierre was second at 343. Rapid City Stevens was third at 351, followed by Spearfish at 362, Mitchell at 366, Watertown at 369, Huron and Winner at 416.
The Tigers will return to action Thursday at the Aberdeen Central Invite, which begins at 10 a.m.
