Huron golfers seventh in Yankton

YANKTON — The Huron girls’ golf team used a score of 356 to finish seventh in the Yankton Invitational on Friday at Fox Run Golf Course.

The Tigers finished just four strokes out of fourth place.

Harrisburg had a 335 to win the 15-team event, while Aberdeen Central was two strokes back in second. Rapid City Stevens was third at 245, followed by Pierre at 352 and Mitchell at 354.

Yankton finished at 355 to edge Huron by a stroke for the sixth spot.

Reese Jansa of Harrisburg turned in an even-par 72 to claim the individual title. She was five strokes in from of second-placed Tanna Phares of Rapid City Stevens. Lauren Sutcliffe of O’Gorman was third at 79, while Olivia Braun of Aberdeen Central and Mattie Weidenbach of Harrisburg shared the fourth spot with scores of 80.

Huron’s Bryn Huber finished in a three-way tie for the sixth spot with an 82.

Olivia Rink shot an 88 to finish tied for 17th for the Tigers, while Kenya Bigelow carded a 90 to share the 25th spot.

Rounding out the lineup for Huron was Libby Picke with a 96, which put her 46th in the final standings.

The Tigers will now be off until the Brookings Invitational, which is May 19 at the Brookings Country Club.
