HURON — Huron Tiger gymnast Erica Zell took the top spot in the All-Around competition, but the Pierre Governors took the next three individual places, edging the Tigers 135.65 to 131.50 in a gymnastics quadrangular Thursday evening at the Tiger Activities Center.
Chamberlain was third with 123.2 points and Stanley County took third with 81.35.
“This was a great home showing by the Huron Tigers,” said coach Julie King following the meet. “I am very proud of the girls as they fought hard and did great.”
Zell claimed the All-Round medal on the night, behind the power of two individual event wins — in balance beam and in floor exercise — while finishing third in Vault and fourth in uneven parallel bars. She totaled 36.05 points on the night.
Pierre’s Mikah Moser was second with 34.9, and teammates Meg Erwin and Sophie Bullard were right behind with scores of 34.5 and 33.95, respectively.
Other Huron all-around placers included Emily Lord in sixth, Kassie Decker in seventh and Sarah Christenson in eighth.
Zell’s beam score was 9.45, a score she matched in floor exercise. Erwin was second in beam, while Decker and Lord were third and fourth, respectively. King finished eighth in beam.
“We had several girls with no-fall beam routines tonight,” King noted. “Erica, Emily (Lord), Sarah (Christianson) and Kaitlyn (King) were all successful tonight. We’ve been stressing the beam and how important it is to stick the routine.”
Moser claimed second in floor, with Erwin in third. Huron finishers saw Decker in ninth and Christenson in 10th.
Bullard took the top podium spot in the vault, with a 9.3, edging Moser by .05. Zell scored a 9.0 for third and Christenson was fourth with an 8.850. Decker finished in a tie for eighth in the event.
Moser took the top spot in uneven parallel bars, with an 8.95. Erwin  finished tied for second with Chamberlain gymnast Ciara Hough, as both posted 8.3 scores. Zell was fourth with 8.15, Lord was seventh (7.7) and Christenson claimed a 6.8 for ninth.
“I am proud of the team,” King said. “We saw improvement all around.”

Huron is back in action on Dec. 9, when it travels to Aberdeen.
