HURON - The Watertown Arrows came out on top of the Huron Invitational triangular with Mitchell and Huron on Tuesday evening.
The Huron Tigers gymnasts had a good showing, led by senior Erica Zell, who finished third in the all-around competition.
Huron coach Julie King was “very happy with the team effort tonight by the Huron Tiger gymnasts.”
Zell broke her own school record on the beam with a 9.6 score, winning the event. She also posted a 9.05 score in vault, allowing her to qualify for the state meet in all events.
Kassie Decker had a state-qualifying 9.25 score on beam to tie her for third in the event. Coach King was very pleased with the entire team’s performance on beam, beyond Zell and Decker’s top-five finishes:
“Leah Pyle and Mckenzie Paulson also had beautiful beam routines. I was very impressed with beam.”
For the Tigers, Zell also had top-10 finishes in bars and floor, where she finished eighth and tied for fifth, respectively.
Huron travels to Yankton for a triangular Thursday.
