Huron hosts pair of SoDak 16 matches today at JVC


HURON — A pair of SoDak 16 volleyball matches will be held today at the James Valley Christian gym.
The first will be a Class A matchup between Miller and Chamberlain at 5:30 p.m.
With a record of 27-2, Miller is the second seed, while Chamberlain at 13-16 is the No. 16 seed.
The Rustlers already own a pair of wins this season against Chamberlain, with both teams advancing to the SoDak 16 out of Region 6A.
Both were sweeps in straight sets.
Miller was the top seed for the region tournament and used a win against Mobridge-Pollock to reach the SoDak 16.
Chamberlain, which was the No. 3 seed in the region needed a pair of wins in the postseason to reach the SoDak 16. The Cubs swept Crow Creek in the opening match and then upset second-seeded Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to qualify for the SoDak 16.
The winner of tonight’s game advances to the Class A State Tournament on Nov. 15-17 in Sioux Falls.
The second match tonight will be in the Class B ranks, as third-seeded Chester Area faces No. 14 Sully Buttes at 7 p.m.
Chester Area, which is 24-5, was the top seed in Region 4B and used a sweep against Mitchell Christian to reach the SoDak 16.
Sully Buttes is 20-8 after inking wins against Highmore-Harrold and Herreid-Selby Area in Region 2B.
It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams, with the winner advancing to the Class B State Tournament on Nov. 15-17 in Sioux Falls.
Note: The full slate of SoDak 16 matches in Class A and Class B will be played today to set the eight-team fields for both state tournaments.
