HURON – A 55-year-old Huron man is in custody and charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping in connection with alleged Tuesday morning incident involving threats and minor injuries to a Huron woman with a baseball bat, authorities said.
Capt. Casey Spinsby said Richard (Rick) Alden Hofer allegedly struck the woman three times in her legs.
At about 10:20 a.m., the Huron Police Dispatch Center received a 911 emergency call from an unidentified female.

The woman told dispatchers she was in a black four-door car with a man who was threatening her with a baseball bat, Spinsby said. She also said the man was not letting her out of the vehicle.
“The woman was able to stay on the line with dispatchers and give updates on her location as the suspect drove her around on the east side of Huron,” Spinsby said.
Within about five minutes, police officers and the Highway Patrol were able to locate and stop the vehicle.
The woman told officers Hofer had struck her at least three times with the bat, and had thrown the bat out the window of the vehicle when he saw police.
Based on information provided by the witness, responding officers were able to locate the bat and collect it as evidence, Spinsby said.
