Huron MS teams face Aberdeen Central

ABERDEEN — Huron’s seventh-grade volleyball teams finished with a split against Aberdeen Central on Friday.

The Tigers used set scores of 12-25, 25-20 and 15-10 to win the A-match.

Hylton Heinz was 9 of 10 serving with six aces to lead Huron, while Jencie Goergen was 6 of 6 with three aces. Elin Schoenhard was 7 of 7 serving with two aces, while Aly Davis was 6 of 6 with two aces.

Schoenhard recorded eight kills for the Tigers on 17 of 24 spikes. Davis had five kills on 13 of 17 hitting, while Chloe Carr had two kills on 7 of 9 spikes and Heinz had two kills on 2 of 2 hitting.

Aberdeen Central won the B-match with set scores of 26-24 and 25-10.

Carr converted on 4 of 5 serves and had three aces for Huron. Kyla Peskey had an ace on 6 of 7 serving, while Jeselyn Matthews was perfect on five serves with an ace and Hannah Ferguson had an ace on 1 of 3 serving.

Ferguson also was 5 of 6 hitting and had the lone kill for the Tigers. Matthews was 2 of 2 hitting.

The Huron seventh-graders will travel to face Brookings on Tuesday.

Eighth-grade
Aberdeen Central swept the Huron eighth-grade teams.

The Golden Eagles won the A-match with set scores of 25-11 and 25-15.

Madalyn Grace was 6 of 7 serving for Huron, while Hannah Purintun was 4 of 5 and Madi Jurgens was 4 of 4.

Roxy Glanzer had four kills for the Tigers, while Samantha Mongmoradeth had two kills. Jurgens had eight set assists.

In the B-match, Aberdeen Central won 25-5 and 25-9.

Keira Graff was 1 of 3 serving with and ace for Huron. Ashlyn Grace was 3 of 3, while Aurora Dreyer was 2 of 2.

The Huron eighth-graders play at Brookings on Tuesday.
