HURON — The Huron Pink Ladies Group will host their fifth annual Huron Pink Ladies Benefit Dart Tournament, which begins at 9 a.m., with a silent auction to follow around noon, Saturday, April 14, at the Huron Event Center.
Pink Ladies is a South Dakota based nonprofit organization that started in Yankton, and has been active in the Huron community for six years. In Huron, the Pink Ladies group has 50-plus members and growing, always looking for more passionate women to join the team.
The organization raises funds through events to support people in the community that are battling cancer.
“People fighting cancer have to go to Mitchell, Sioux Falls or Aberdeen for treatments, so everything is more than an hour either way. The funds we donate help with gas, lodging and food,” said JoAnn McHugh. “This year we’ve helped approximately eight to ten people so far.”
Not only do the Pink Ladies raise funds to support cancer victims and their families, they are also active in volunteer work, donate to the Backpack Program and much more for the community.
“The Pink Ladies group together to volunteer and help serve,” said JoAnn.
“We’re working to get our name out in the community, we’ve had Christmas trees at the Crossroads a couple times and we did the parade of lights this year,” Vicki explained.

Pink dart boards are placed around the state to promote breast cancer awareness, approximately 30 boards were made for the Pink Ladies organizations.
“The pink boards are all in South Dakota, we have two of them here in Huron,” said JoAnn.
“They were especially made for our state and were all at the State Dart Tournament in October,” Vicki Daut added. “When the tournament was over they were sent to bars throughout the state.”
The State Pink Dart Tournament takes place in October each year, this year in Brookings, where teams travel from all over the state and beyond to participate.
“There’s a State Pink Dart Tournament that’s gotten pretty big,” said Mary Stolsmark.
Vicki added, “The last two years it was held in Brookings and is set to take place in Brookings again this year.”
“One year we had teams from Canada at our state tournament,” Vicki added.
A major goal for the organization is to get the Huron Pink Ladies name out there, “we want people to know if they know someone that needs help they can contact us,” said JoAnn.
The Huron Pink Ladies added, “we want to thank all of our sponsors and everyone who made donations, we are greatly appreciative.”
The Benefit and Dart Tournament will also sell raffle tickets for donated items, a silent auction plus a bake sale, which the public is welcome to attend.
