HURON — The Huron Pink Ladies Group will host their fifth annual Huron Pink Ladies Benefit Dart Tournament, which begins at 9 a.m., with a silent auction to follow around noon, Saturday, April 14, at the Huron Event Center.
Pink Ladies is a South Dakota based nonprofit organization that started in Yankton, and has been active in the Huron community for six years. In Huron, the Pink Ladies group has 50-plus members and growing, always looking for more passionate women to join the team.
The organization raises funds through events to support people in the community that are battling cancer.
“People fighting cancer have to go to Mitchell, Sioux Falls or Aberdeen for treatments, so everything is more than an hour either way. The funds we donate help with gas, lodging and food,” said JoAnn McHugh. “This year we’ve helped approximately eight to ten people so far.”
Not only do the Pink Ladies raise funds to support cancer victims and their families, they are also active in volunteer work, donate to the Backpack Program and much more for the community.
“The Pink Ladies group together to volunteer and help serve,” said JoAnn.
“We’re working to get our name out in the community, we’ve had Christmas trees at the Crossroads a couple times and we did the parade of lights this year,” Vicki explained.
