Tweens and Teens
The Tween/Teen department at the Huron Public Library strives to bring the Joy of Reading to youth in the Huron area. A variety of programs are offered to encourage the youth to read throughout the summer.

Reading opportunities include:
• Facebook Read Aloud every weekday at 6:30 pm.
• Mystery book bags filled with three books and fun surprises. Youth choose a bag from a variety of genre.
• Zoom book clubs are offered for tweens and middle school youth.
Other activities include:
• Teen Nailed It, teens will receive a theme and decorate a cake to depict this theme. The cakes will be displayed on Facebook for public votes.
• Tween Making It is for 4th-5th-graders. They will obtain a kit at Carry Out and compete to use these objects to create a recycled creation.
• Weekly outdoor games are offered for Wacky Wednesdays; the youth must be prepared to get wet!

• A weekly craft is available each of the seven weeks. Teens can tune into Facebook for the DIY instructions.
• The youth are challenged to YNot Make a Difference by participating in a weekly service project.
• Youth are encouraged to attend outdoor movies.

Please note these activities require registration. Tween/Teen Librarian Mary Olson endeavors to meet the variety of learning styles and interests when scheduling programs. There is something for everyone at the Huron Public Library.

Pets are offered the opportunity to be part of their humans’ enjoyment. If your animal is wondering if they are considered a pet, this is “Wikipedia’s” definition: a domesticated animal kept for pleasure rather than utility.

Pets must obtain a library card to be part of the Summer Reading Program. They can send their staff … er um, human in to sign them up. They receive a bookmark with activities to engage in. Upon completion of the bookmark their person returns the bookmark to the library. Their name will be entered into a final drawing.

Other OpPETunities for your household rulers (pets) include bi-weekly drawings where completed pet bookmarks are entered to win a prize, selfie posts on the library Facebook pages, paw prints or tracings of your tail.

Adults will have the opportunity to win prizes, attend book clubs, complete crafts and attend entertainment programs like family film night. Patrons can pick up their bookmark bundles beginning June 1. After you completed the tasks on the bookmark return it to the library to be considered for the drawings. All bookmarks must be submitted by Thursday, July 15, by 6 p.m. for the final drawing — a chance to win Huron Bucks!
