WATERTOWN — The Huron girls’ cross country team finished eighth at the Watoma Invite on Thursday.

Brandon Valley had five of the top nine runners to win the girls’ team title with 27 points, while Harrisburg was second at 34.

Rounding out the top five were O’Gorman at 98, Pierre at 121 and Watertown at 146.

The Tigers finished with a total of 227.

Mia Wentzy of Brandon Valley turned in a winning time of 19:03.70 in the girls’ varsity race.

Josie Vlieger led Huron with a time of 22:20.43 to finish 37th.

Lily Meyer was 45th at 23:19.33 and Tatum Peterson was 47th at 23:27.11.

Rounding out the lineup for the Tigers were Nora Pester at 23:59.56 and Kayeleigh Bowden at 27:54.22.

Pierre used a score of 88 to edge Brandon Valley by three points for the boys’ team title. Sioux Falls Washington was third at 99, followed by Aberdeen Central at 108 and Brookings at 113.

Huron finished 11th in the boys’ standings at 315.

Pierre teammates CJ Moses and Jared Lutmer shared the top spot in the individual standings with times of 16:00.95.

Teagan Lien led Huron with a time of 19:04.63, which placed him in spot No. 56. James Weir was 75th at 19:59.91, while Antwon Flying Hawk was fifth spots back at 20:26.75.

Rounding out the lineup for the Tigers was Will Knippling at 20:49.45; Cameron Cutshaw at 20:49.55, Edvin Rodriguez Reyes at 20:49.82 and Alec Pester at 21:21.89.

Huron is at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet on Oct. 7 in Sioux Falls.
