ABERDEEN — Although they didn’t field a full team in many of the races, the Huron Tigers had some solid performances at the Al Sahli Cross Country meet on Thursday.
The girls’ varsity race was won by Meghan Ford of Jamestown, in a time of 19:23.72. Aberdeen Central took the team title with a total of 21 points, as they swept the second through fifth places, with a quartet of freshman runners.
Huron got a 12th place finish from Sami Shoultz while Jordan Adams finished 21st for the Tigers.
The boys’ team race also went to Aberdeen Central, with 19 points. The Golden Eagles had the top two spots at the finish, with Jackson Harrison taking the individual title in a time of 16:44.09.
Huron’s Carlos Yanes was 17th in the race while Frank Hines was 21st.

“We didn’t handle the heat as well as I’d like to,” said Huron coach Angie Thomas. “I don’t think my athletes were very hydrated. Hopefully they now realize how important it is to drink water throughout the day.”
The boys’ JV team finished sixth in the standings, led by Angel Granados’ 33rd-place finish. Spencer LaFortune was 36th, Baht Eh was one spot back and Shelby Vanden Hoek was 42nd in the field.
The girls’ JV team had the top individual performances on the day for Huron, as Alexis Feenstra managed a sixth-place finish, two spots ahead of Isabella Shreeve. Alissa Gauer was 17th for Huron.
The cross country runners are off until Sept. 16, when they host the Huron Invitational at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
