Huron splits doubleheader

HURON — The Huron Tigers tennis team defeated Pierre Saturday, as part of the Huron Quadrangular, held at Huron High School Courts.

Huron defeated the Lady Govs 5-4 in the match, which saw Kayla Harvey win No. 1 singles 10-2, Audrey Rubish cash in at No. 2 singles and team up to take the No. 1 doubles match.

Beth Engelhart took the win at No. 4 singles and Htee Say and Bianca Medina teamed up to take the No. 3 doubles team and earn the Tigers the win. Medina and Htee Htoo each won singles exhibition matches.

"We played great against Pierre," said Tiger coach Rachel Kary. "We won a couple of key doubles matches to pull out the win."

Other matches involving the Tigers saw them drop a 5-4 decision to Brookings. Harvey, Englehart and Say won singles matches for Huron and Harvey/Rubish won their doubles match.

"We lost to Brookings, but we were right there and played great matches in all flights."

The third match for Huron found them on the short end of a 9-0 score to a dominant Watertown team.

The Tigers are back on the court on Friday, when Rapid City Christian comes to town.
