Huron teeners place at Brookings tourney

BROOKINGS - After a weekend of action, the Huron 13U Teener team claimed fourth place at the Cubby’s Bar and Grill Classic in Brookings over the weekend.

In Saturday’s action, Huron’s bats were active, leading to two run-rule victories at Mickelson Middle School’s field to earn the way to the third-place game on Sunday.

In the first game, Huron was trailing 5-2 entering the top of the fourth inning before a 14-run explosion that led to a 16-5 run-rule victory over Sioux Falls Post 15.

Chase Schuchhardt opened the game on the mound for Huron, tossing 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs and striking out four. Blaise Simmon closed out the game with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out one.

Hunter Fenske led four Huron hitters with multiple hits, tallying three singles and leading an aggressive Huron running game that totaled 11 stolen bases with two.

Jeremy Hofer had a pair of hits and a pair of stolen bases. Tyce Huber tapped out two singles and stole a base. Simmon also nabbed two hits.

Cooper Bischoff and Schuchhardt each stole two bases, while Davis Chase and Parker Bischoff each added a theft.

In the second game of the day against the Yankton Reds, Huron scored five runs in the first inning and crossed the plate in every inning before six runs in the fifth clinched a run-rule victory by the score of 17-7.

Landon Schutt took the ball to open the game, allowing four runs in 2 1/3 innings, striking out three.

Hofer, Huber, and Parker Bischoff combined to toss 2 2/3 innings of relief to close out the game.

Fenske had a pair of hits, including a double, and stole three bases to lead the Huron offense. Chase had two singles and three steals. Schuchhardt added two singles and a pair of steals.

Cooper Bischoff slugged a home run. Parker Bischoff and Simmon each rapped out a double. Huber stole two bases.

Marshall Black was able to defeat Huron 13-4 in the third place game Sunday at Erv Heuther Field.

Chase got the start and allowed two runs in two innings, striking out three. Simmon relieved him, allowing eight runs over 2 1/3 innings. Fenske and Cooper Bischoff combined for the last 1 2/3 innings.

Simmon had a double and Schuchhardt stole a base.

The 13U club finished the weekend with a 10-8 record on the season. The team is next in action at a tournament in Sioux Falls beginning Friday.

The Huron 14U team claimed fifth in the 14U division of the tournament.

On Saturday, Huron defeated Sioux Falls West Red 13-8 then fell to Brookings Black 10-2 at Bob Shelden Field to play for fifth place against RTR Knights Sunday.

In that game, Huron left no doubt by defeating the RTR Knights by run rule, 17-4.

The 14U team is back in action tonight on the road against Brandon for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
