ABERDEEN — The Huron track and field team opened its season Tuesday at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Indoor Meet at the Barnett Center on the campus of Northern State University.
Brynn Gose shared the third spot in the long jump for the Tigers with a mark of 15 feet, 6.75 inches.
“That was a huge confidence builder for Brynn,” Huron coach Angie Thomas said. “She was nervous to jump since she hadn’t done any long jumping since her eighth-grade season.”
Gose also shared the seventh spot in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.95.
Lexy Gilbert had a fourth-place showing for the Tigers in the 55-meter dash. She had a time of 7.77 seconds.
“Lexy showed her dedication to track last season by continuing to do sprint workouts during the Covid-19 shutdown,” Thomas said. “She worked with the Mt. Marty coach throughout the summer, as well.”
Reese Rozell and Alexis Feenstra finished in spots No. 9 and 10, respectively, for Huron in the 800 run. Rozell crossed the line in 2:44.15, while Feenstra recorded a 2:45.48.
Isaiah Decker was sixth for the Huron boys’ team in the shot put. He had a throw of 44-9.5.
“When Isaiah threw at the indoor meet in 2019, he only threw 33-10.5, so starting this season with a throw a little over 44-0 is a great way to start the season,” Thomas said.
Dylan Lichty was seventh for the Tigers in the boys’ pole vault, clearing 9-6.25.
“Since it was the first meet, he went in on the opening height and got really tired towards the end,” Thomas said.
The Huron track teams are now off until the Huron Invitational, which is scheduled for April 9 at Tiger Stadium.
