Huron wins three titles in Region 3B

CHAMBERLAIN — The Huron Tigers won three individual titles and qualified six wrestlers for the state tournament during the Region 3A Tournament on Saturday.

As a team, the Tigers were fifth in the 7-team event with 137 points. Pierre claimed the team title with 249 points, while Mitchell was second at 225. Chamberlain was third at 163, followed by Aberdeen Central at 147.

Moses Gross defeated Nate Williams of Pierre with a 16-3 major decision to win the championship at 120 pounds for Huron.

Lucas Hofer claimed a title for the Tigers at 160. He decisioned Tyson Degen of Mitchell 11-7 in the championship match.

Tyson Lien decisioned Joe VanOverschelde of Mitchell 7-4 to win the title for Huron at 182.

Also earning berths in the state tournament for the Tigers were Kaiser Ruth at 145, Tristan Cardona at 220 and Sebastian Cardona at 285. All three finished third in the region tournament on Saturday.

The Class A State Tournament is schedule for Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Rapid City.
