HURON — The Huron Young Professionals have partnered with the South Dakota State Fair for fun and almost free day at the Fair, on Friday, Sep. 1.
The opportunity to get in free, park for free and enjoy fair food, will be available to those who volunteer for one of the activities listed below. Volunteers will also have the chance to win concert or monster truck tickets. There will be free parking in Lot H on the S.W. side of the fairgrounds, the closest gate entrance is Gate 8.
Join other Huron Young Professionals at the Midway Roadhouse for “Lunch Bunch” at 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1. Young professionals may select from any fair vendor for their meal and seating will be reserved.
Volunteering is not mandatory in order to join the lunch, however volunteers are greatly needed.
Free fair swag and the chance to be in the drawing to win a pair of tickets to a concert of choice, or to the monster trucks show will take place at Lunch Bunch, those who enter the drawing must be present to win.

Volunteer opportunities for Friday, Sept 1:
• Judge karaoke contestants at the Midway Roadhouse. Volunteers must be there at 4:45 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m.

• Pork Butt Battle and Chili Challenge in the Horticulture Park. The Chili Challenge is at 1 p.m., volunteers must be there at 12:45 p.m. to hand out bowls and spoons to the public. Pork tasting will be at 3 p.m., volunteers to report there at 2:45 p.m. to hand out bowls and forks to the public.
• Courtesy cart drivers are needed for morning and afternoon shifts.  This opportunity is available every day.
• Judge Dakota Star Prelim Competition, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Freedom Stage.  Experience with professional music prefered.
• Volunteer at the Huron Chamber Booth, shifts are three hours.

Other volunteer opportunities throughout the fair to win a free gate pass: 
• Judge karaoke contestants from 4:45 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Thursday Aug. 31 and Sat. Sept. 2, at the Midway Roadhouse.
• Miss S.D. State Fair judges and host homes will be needed at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2. Judging begins on Friday night and will finish on Saturday.
• Kids’ Pedal Pull volunteer and emcee needed on Saturday, Sept. 2. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the event starts at 12 p.m., at Gate 3.
• Judge Dakota Star Prelims, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Freedom Stage.  Experience with professional music prefered.
• Timer and two scorekeepers are needed for the Youth Talent Contest from 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4 at the Dakotaland Stage.
• Volunteers need to help park tractors at the Antique Tractor Show, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Centennial Stage. This year a parade will take place at 10 a.m., after the parade the tractors will need to be parked at the stage. Two emcees are needed plus help counting ballots from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Classic Car Show set up volunteers are needed to help park cars from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Centennial Stage. This year a parade will take place at 10 a.m. After the parade the cars will need to be parked at the stage. 
• Kids’ Fish Catch volunteers needed to help kids that catch trout with their hands to put the fish in bags with ice. The fish catch will start at 5 p.m., volunteers needed from 4:30 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Horticulture Park.
• Arm Wrestling assistants needed to help hold the arm wrestling unit, take entries and flight out contestants per weight division. Assistants needed from 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2. Flighting out knowledge is required.
• Strongman Competition emcee needed at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2.
