Incumbents re-elected in District 22 races

HURON — Republican incumbent Jim White defeated challenger Eric Bliss to retain his District 22 seat in the S.D. State Senate, while fellow Republicans Bob Glanzer and Roger Chase held a substantial lead over Democratic challenger Tyler Volesky in the race for the State House in District 22.
As the Plainsman went to press Tuesday night, with 13 of the 16 precincts counted in District 22, which includes Beadle and Kingsbury Counties, White led Bliss 70 percent to 30 percent. This is the second election that White had defeated Bliss to remain as the senator from the district.
In the House race, Glanzer had 39 percent of the votes, Chase was in second with 34 percent and Volesky had a solid 27 percent showing.
A by-county breakdown showed nearly identical results in each of the races.
The top two vote getters in the race will be sworn in to represent the citizens of Beadle and Kingsbury Counties prior to the next legislative session, in January of 2019.
