WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Inez R. Grace, 95, of Wessington Springs, formerly of Alpena, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020, at Avera Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.


A private family service will be held  Wednesday at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. The service will be live-streamed through the Welter Funeral Home Facebook Page beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Welter Funeral Home (the family will not be present at the visitation).

CDC guidelines are in place and masks are required for the visitation and funeral service.


Inez was born August 13, 1925, to parents, Carl and Minnie (Engel) Weber. She was born and raised in Hand County where she also attended school. They then moved to the Virgil and Alpena area where she finished school. She worked as a housekeeper for numerous families prior to taking nurse’s training at Good Samaritan Hospital where she worked for 4 years. In later years she worked at Jarold Shop, Geyermans, Huron Nursing Home and drove laundry truck for Buhl’s all in Huron.


On July 23, 1946, Inez married Leo Schmidtgall. They lived in Huron before moving to a farm northwest of Alpena. They had one daughter, Patricia Cheryl. Leo passed away on November 7, 1981. On January 8, 1983, Inez married Irl Grace. Irl passed away June 19, 1998. Inez moved off the farm in 2005, and her final years were spent at Avera Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.


Inez was a proud member of First United Methodist Church in Huron. For many years she was part of the Neighborly Get Together Club in the Virgil and Alpena vicinity. She loved gardening and flowers but most of all her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.


Grateful for having shared in Inez’s life are her son-in-law, Ivan Kopfmann of Alpena; three grandchildren, Todd (Mary) Kopfmann of Alpena, Stacey (Pam) Kopfmann of Wessington Springs, and Kim (Dave) Deines of Marshall, Minn.; eight great-grandchildren, Kayla (Jamie) Carlson, Kaleb (Jenn) Kopfmann, Brett (Brooke) Kopfmann, Becky (Evan) Muller, Bryce Kopfmann, Jacob, Joshua, and Jaden Deines; five great-great grandchildren, Caylee, Chloe, Cohen, Davin and Devlyn; many nieces and nephews; and step children, Donna (Joe) McCurry and Joel (Etta Ann) Grace.


Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her daughter, Patricia Kopfmann in 2019; her sisters, Mary Micheel, Ruby Schmidtgall, and Mildred Timm; brothers, Ivan Weber in infancy, George Weber, Elmer Weber and Kenneth Weber; step sons, Vince (Karen) Grace and Bud (Claire) Grace; and other loved ones.
