REDFIELD — Irene N. Smith, 99, of Redfield, and formerly of Tulare, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 5, at the Tulare United Church in Tulare. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate. Interment will follow at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Gann Valley. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Nellie Irene Smith was born February 15, 1919, in Gann Valley to Frank and Mae (Marshall) Henrichsen. She and her three siblings grew up in Gann Valley before the family moved to Pierre. She was united in marriage to George Smith June 28, 1939. The couple lived and worked in the Pierre area before they moved to Glenham in the early 1940’s. In Glenham, she helped her husband on the farm and cooked for the children at the Glenham School.
She was fond of tatting doiles, crocheting, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and attending all their activities.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Linda) Smith of Tulare; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis DeJong of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; and siblings, Wilma Anderson, and Genn Henrichsen.
