Iroquois FCCLA attends regional meeting

IROQUOIS — Sixteen members of the Iroquois FCCLA Chapter, along with their adviser Vicki Dant, traveled to Madison on Dec. 5 to participate in the Region V FCCLA Meeting.  
Chapter members met with other students, from neighboring chapters, to participate in various activities sponsored by this dynamic, student-run organization.  The theme for the meeting was “Believe in Yourself!”
Members competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events including Illustrated Talk, Career Investigation, Job Interview and Knowledge Bowl.
Students from Iroquois chapter received the following rating in each STAR Event: 


• Bronze Rating: Kasey Burmeister and Skylar Owens
• Silver Rating: Ashlyn Wipf, Saybl McDermaid, and Ali Griffit
• Gold Rating: Renea Sanderson, Lily Blue & Lexi Burma, Paige Wagner & Kaylee Morehead, and Sarah Nelson
Students who received Gold will advance to the state leadership meeting to be held in Sioux Falls in April.
Guests at the meeting included members of the State Leadership Teams including the National Outreach Team, Advocacy Team and Trends Team who hosted educational workshops.  
At the meeting, the group elected and installed new leaders for the 2019-2020 school year.  New officers include treasurer Jacob Russell from the Iroquois chapter.
FCCLA, which stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, centers on building strong leaders for America’s future and is the only national organization with the family as it’s focus. The organization has been in existence since 1945 and has 200,000 members nationwide.
The state leadership meeting is held every April in Sioux Falls and over 2,000 students from across the state are expected to attend. Winners in each category at the state level will advance to the National Leadership Meeting to be held in Anaheim, Calif., in July
