Iroquois School District collects pop tabs

Posted

The Iroquois Elementary School and Pearl Creek Colony students collected 160 pounds of pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. This total is up from the 90 pounds they collected last year.

The fourth-grade class collected the most with 30 pounds, and kindergarten came in a close second with 28 pounds.

The Iroquois FCCLA chapter will deliver the pop tabs while they are at state convention this week.

Total collected by each class:
• PreK - 2 pounds
• K - 28 pounds

• 1 - 23 pounds
• 2 - 15 pounds
• 3 - 25 pounds
• 4 - 30 pounds
• 5 - 17 pounds
• Pearl Creek Colony - 20 pounds

Interesting facts:
• Ronald McDonald House only saves the tab because there is more aluminum in the tab than in the whole can.
• The 160 pounds of tabs equals 202,720 individual pop tabs.
• Lined up end-to-end, these pop tabs would stretch 16,893 feet or the length of over 56 football fields. There are 12 tabs per foot.
