BOX ELDER — James Parmely, 82, of Box Elder and formerly of Miller, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller. Burial will follow in G.A.R. Cemetery at Miller with military honors. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
James was born September 20, 1935, near the St. Lawrence and Vayland area to Ferrill and Mabel (Campbell) Parmely. He was united in marriage to Genevieve Gortmaker December 17, 1955. They lived on the family farm most of their lives. In 1957, he joined the Army National Guard of South Dakota Artillery Unit and was honorably discharged in April 1963. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Miller and for many years.
He is survived by his wife; children, Dwayne of Huron, and Wanda (Michael) Irwin of Box Elder; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred (Lowell) Engel, Marles Dean, Margaret Starks, and Beth (Jack) Engel; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Wyatt, Wayne, Clark, Otis, Viola, and Lenarda; three brothers–in-law; one sister-in-law; and many nephews, and nieces.
