HURON — James Pownell, 93, of Huron, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran’s Council. Burial to follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at Huron. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m., or one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
James R. Pownell was born July 4, 1925, in Huron to Holly L. and Alice I. (Johnston) Pownell. He graduated from Hitchcock High School and served in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Ada Nyhouse July 14, 1950. He worked as a parts manager for D. Urquhart & Sons for 22 years, and for Sibley Motors for 18 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and the Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Ada; children, Randall (Jan) Pownell of Spokane, Wash., and Roxy (Gary) Gogolin of Huron; two grandchildren, Geoffrey (Lisa) Gogolin, and Amanda Gogolin; two great-grandchildren, Judson and Brantley Gogolin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his eight siblings.
