A Celebration of Life memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls.

Jane was a dutiful wife, a loving mother, a marvelous grandmother, aunt, sister, and cherished friend, and modeled a life of love and service to her family and friends by always putting others needs ahead of her own. Jane and her twin sister, Jeanette, were born April 17, 1932, to Niels and Lillian Nielsen at Olivia, Minn. As a young child, she moved with her parents and four siblings to Huron.

While in high school, she met and married Rollie Sanderson, and they immediately started their family. Jane spent most of her young adult life raising her seven children in Huron, while also operating several small businesses, including Frank’s Hamburger Shops with her husband.

In 1981, Jane moved to Sioux Falls to begin a new chapter of her life. There, she worked as a phlebotomy technician and nursing assistant at McKennan Hospital for many years. She was an avid reader, skilled sewer, bowler, and bridge player and she loved going on trips with her girlfriends to California and Arizona. Jane was a strong woman, but vulnerable to the obstacles that faced so many women of her generation. Therefore, it was a matter of great pride and joy to her that all her children graduated from college and that 16 of her grandchildren continued that trend. To assist her children while they became successful adults, she tirelessly traveled state to state to help care for her young grandchildren.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories to be shared for generations. She is survived by her children, Jim (Jean) Sanderson, Minnetonka, Minn., Carol Sanderson (John Fremstad), Eden Prairie, Minn., Jeanne (Jim) Drake, Sioux Falls, Rich (Sandy) Sanderson, Leadville, Colo., Rod (Lisa) Sanderson, Sioux Falls, Gail (Mehrdad) Sadeghi, Minneapolis, Minn., and Diane (Todd) Friese, Sioux Falls. One son, David, preceded her in death. She also leaves her 16 grandchildren, Jessica Sanderson, Kirk Sanderson, Erik Sanderson, Anders Fremstad, Britt Fremstad, Jay Drake, Dan Drake, Becky Peppel, Joe Drake, David Sanderson, Ellen Doerr, Kate Sanderson, Jake Kelly, Kristin Blaine, Derek Friese and Kassie Friese, 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Weddle; one brother, Ed Nielsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
