GORDON, Neb. — Jeannine A. Grothe, 90, of Gordon, NE and formerly of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at the Gordon Countryside Manor.
Her funeral service will be 1 p.m., Monday, February 25, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial following at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
Jeannine Ann (Wiley) Grothe was born Sunday, February 10, 1929, in Huron to Ira Ross and Evelyn Agnus (Oanes) Wiley.  While growing up in Huron, Jeannine attended Huron High School where she was active as a cheerleader and participated in choir. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart John A. Grothe Sunday, November 6, 1949, in Huron. John and Jeannine, over the next few years, lived in Yankton, Grand Island, Neb., Brookings, Webster, North Platte, Neb., finally moving back to Huron in 1971. Jeannine was employed by Norwest Bank which later became Wells Fargo Bank. She enjoyed her work, her co-workers and the bank customers.
Jeannine shared her life with many good friends in the communities where she and John made their home. In Huron, she especially enjoyed the company of retired Wells Fargo co-workers for Thursday lunches and the group of friends that gathered for Thursday evening dinners. She enjoyed a good game of bridge and the associations of her bridge group friends, challenging crossword puzzles (always completing them in ink!), and earlier, in life, her singing gift was appreciated by many. She was active in the Jaycee-Ettes, Pooped Pullets (the organization of “older or more mature” Jaycee- Ettes), various Extension Clubs, bowling leagues, couples and ladies golf leagues, and traveled a bit with friends.
She was instrumental in the organizing of her Huron High School class reunions serving on the various committees. She was also a “Red Hatter” for a time and enjoyed the association of her fellow members and their adventures.  She served as a Board member of the “Our Home, Inc.” of Huron supporting and placing great value in the program and its mission of helping young people who needed a helping hand.   She also was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, attending the churches located in the communities where she and John resided.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Mel) Bowen of Hay Springs, Neb., Thomas (Gayle) Grothe of Elkhorn, Neb., and James (Terri) Grothe of Brandon. Also, seven grandchildren, Andrew Olson, John Olson, Joseph Grothe, Jacob Grothe, Jennifer Grothe, John Grothe, and Taylor Grothe; and six great-grandchildren, Delaney Olson, Drew Olson, Grace Olson, Luke Olson, Graysen Grothe, and Alexander Grothe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Donald G. Wiley of Rapid City; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Grothe of Omaha, Neb.
Memorials may be sent to Welter Funeral Home, are suggested to the “Our Home, Inc.” of Huron, or to the donor’s choice.
