FRANKFORT -- Jerry Francis DeYoung, 74, of Frankfort, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 of natural causes at his home on the family farm. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield, SD. Pastor LeShea Avery will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.
Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Family will be present from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. to accept condolences. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)
Jerry Francis DeYoung was born April 7, 1943 at the Baldwin Hospital in Redfield to Sebe and Hilda (Swanson) DeYoung. He attended Harmony Township Country School next to his home before graduating from Redfield High School in 1961.
Jerry married Maryalice Roeber on March 20, 1966. Jerry and Maryalice had four sons: Kevin, Brad, Scott and Darin.
Jerry was a farmer all his life. He loved the land and its history. His favorite time of year was harvest when he could combine the year’s crops. Jerry loved farming with his sons and being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and was tireless when it came to teaching them about farming, hunting, and fishing – the things he loved most.
He was an avid Allis Chalmers enthusiast; collecting and refurbishing Allis tractors and toys. Jerry served in the National Guard for many years. He was a loyal member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield and was most recently the President of the Frankfort Community Center.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Maryalice of Frankfort; his son, Brad (Margot) DeYoung of Redfield and their children: Katelyn (Dylan) Vansteenberg and Ethan; his son, Scott (Katina) DeYoung of Frankfort and their children: Bailey, Kara and Danielle; his son, Darin (Jessica) DeYoung of Frankfort and their children: Aleigha, Christian, Josie and Axel; and Kevin’s children: Kyle and Amy. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Kaye) DeYoung of Aberdeen, SD and two sisters: Mary Ellen (Jesse) Bowers of Sidnaw, MI and Bonnie (Ron) Buckles of Chippewa Falls, WI.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin; his parents, Sebe and Hilda DeYoung; and two brothers: Wesley (in infancy) and Warren DeYoung.
