HURON — Jim G. “Jake” Wipf, 77, of Huron, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, August 3, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at the Prairie Bible Church Cemetery, rural Carpenter on Friday.
Jim was born November 7, 1939, in Huron to Sam and Mary (Gross) Wipf. He attended school in Huron and then entered into the U.S. Army February 20, 1956. He served in the infantry until his honorable discharge February 19, 1960. He had various employment in Huron which included Porter Ford and most recently the City of Huron from which he retired. He was a quiet man with a calm demeanor who enjoyed reading and socializing with his family and friends.
 He is survived by his sister, Glenda Hofer of Redfield; half sister, Charlotte (Frank) Durskey of Minn.; half brothers, Leonard Wipf of N.Y., and Walter Wipf of Hawaii; stepbrothers, Norman Nelson of Minn., Lyman (Lorraine) Nelson and Ronald Nelson, all of Huron; and nieces and nephews
 James was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Esther Wipf; and brother, Raymond Wipf
