HURON — Joan Currier, 89, of Huron, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019, at The Wellshire (formerly SunQuest Village). Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Williams Cemetery in Yale. Visitation with family present will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Welter Funeral Home. A scripture and rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
 Joan Lois was born on June 11, 1930, in Beadle County to parents Wilbur F. and Rose E. (Farrell) Kornder. She grew up in the Bancroft area attending Oseola Grade School and Bancroft High School, graduating in 1948.
Joan married Merlin D. “Nob” Currier at the Cavour Catholic Parsonage on August 25, 1948. Joan and Nob had four children born to this union. The family lived in the Bancroft area before moving to Iroquois in 1969.
 Joan was a housewife, mother, and school cook at Bancroft and Iroquois school for 12 years. In 1977, she started her career with the United States Postal Service. She started as a clerk in Iroquois and then became Postmaster in Stickney in 1983, where she and Nob resided for ten years, before returning to Iroquois where she finished her career as Postmaster. Joan received many awards and accolades for her postal career, including several outstanding evaluations and being chosen Postmaster of the Year by her peers in 1989.
 Joan was active in 4-H as a leader for 15 years. She also volunteered for RSVP. Joan was a life-long member of the Catholic Church. She taught Catechism for 15 years, Officer in the Altar Society, on church council, played the organ and directed the choir. She also served as a lector and eucharistic minister. She was a 43-year member of AFG during which time she held numerous positions.
 Joan is survived by her three children, Mary (Dennis) Cundy, Janey (Mike) Rowan, Dick (Cookie) Currier;  Her grandchildren, Valerie (Cundy) (Tom) Josten, RJ (Michaela) Currier, Lacey (Rowan) (Steve) Fryberger, Rochelle (Cundy) (Tom) Sweetman, and Stacie (Currier) Valencia; great grandchildren, Jyssica (Mitchell) (Derik) Laddusaw, Bobby Mitchell and Casey Mitchell, Kaylie and Katyn Currier, Cooper and Mattlyn Fryberger, Addison and Brooklyn Valencia, Cameron, and Devon Johnson, Liam and Evelyn Sweetman; great-great grandchildren, Bryton and Bryckyn Laddusaw; two sisters, Nikki Perry and Anne Olson; one brother, Roger (Joy) Kornder; sister-in-law, Donna Dirksen; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Nob; daughter, Mary Ann; grandson, Matt Rowan; brother, Don Kornder; her in-laws, Dick Perry, Delbert Dirksen, Kenneth, and Pauline Currier; very special friend, Smitty Smith; and her parents, and grandparents.
