VOLGA — John P. Timmerman, 69, of Volga and formerly of Wessington, passed away at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Wessington Cemetery in Wessington.
John Paul Timmerman was born on July 13, 1950, in Miller, to parents Walter A. and Lucille F. (Bonebrake) Timmerman. He attended school in Wessington. John worked at Huron Culvert and Tank and Vern’s Manufacturing. John was also a handyman and enjoyed working with horses.
He married Mari Kristi Kotzea in Aberdeen on May 23, 1986. They lived in Wessington for 21 years before moving to Redfield and Howard. Mari passed away in 2009. After Mari’s passing, John moved to Volga to be closer to family.
John was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wessington. He was a member of American Quarter Horse Association. He enjoyed watching old westerns, talking with family and friends. Taking his dog, Sassie, for runs in his wheelchair was his favorite activity.
John is survived by his cousins, Don (Lorilei) Bingham of Volga, Wanda Bingham of Huron, and Nancy (Travis) Detloff of Pipestone; second cousins, Chris (Jessica) Bingham of Brookings, Starla (Brian) Bayne of Oldham, and Cary (Stella) Bingham of Brookings; and his beloved dog, Sassie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mari; and several aunts and uncles.
