HOWARD —  Joy J. Scheel, 70, of Howard passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, August 23, at Beach United Methodist Church in Howard with burial at a later date.
Joy Joyce Scheel was born July 25, 1948, at La Moure, N.D. to Clinton and Gertrude (Porter) Merryfield. When Joy was four years old she moved to Verona, N.D. and later to California, Pewaukee, Wisc. and settling in Portage, Wisc.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Scheel January 28, 1967. She worked at numerous businesses but the one’s that were dear to her heart, were working and taking care of children, whether it was an after school program, Sunday school or at a daycare. Joy enjoyed horseshoe’s, fishing, hunting squirrel, reading, drawing and having children around the house, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Scheel of Howard;  daughters, Cathi (Ulysses) Abraham of Brown Valley, Minn., and Sandy (Jim) Schirmacher of Yankton: eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Fay (Terry) Hanson, and Donna Tosh both of Madison, Wisc.; special friends, Lea Selken and her son E. J. Leetch, Robbie Drown and her family, Lynn Mentele and Lee Thames.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Wade, Duane, and Mary Zimmerman; and daughter, Tanya Scheel.
