PIEDMONT — Julian Ray Olson, 65, of Piedmont, and formerly of Pierre, passed away June 18, 2017, at Fort Meade VA Hospital in Fort Meade.
 Services will be 1 p.m. (CST), Friday, June 23, at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre. Burial will full military honors will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Blunt. Visitation will be 5 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Isburg Funeral Chapel. 
Julian was born June 29, 1951, in Guymon, Okla. to Oran and Mina Mary (Schlegel) Olson. The family moved to the DeGrey area and he graduated from Blunt High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army and received several medals. He was united in marriage to Alberta Flansburg on July 29, 1978.
In 1974, he began working for the Chicago and NorthWestern  Railroad and eventually became a track inspector. He was injured in a railroad motor vehicle accident in 1998, which left him a tetraplegic (paralyzed from the neck down).
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Melanie Olson of Piedmont, and Sarah (Joe) Carlson of Canton; six siblings, Jesse (Peggy) Olson, Connie (Mike) McCosky, Camilla (Joe) Rajewski, Calvin “Ole” (Melody) Olson, John (Karla) Olson, and Randy Olson; two grandsons; and tons of nieces, nephews, and cousins.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and nephews, John Olson, Adam  McCosky, Frank Novak, and Alan Novak.
