JVC blanks Groton Area Thursday

GROTON — James Valley Christian recorded a shutout against Groton Area in a boys’ soccer matchup on Thursday.
After leading 3-0 at the half, the Vikings added a goal in the second half for a 4-0 victory, which boosted their record to 5-4-2.
“Despite being outshot 19-18, we put together our most complete game of the season,” JVC coach Jory Wipf said.
Gavin Waldner opened the scoring for the Vikings with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute.
Noah Fast then scored on a pass from Waldner to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute.
Isaac Wipf closed the scoring in the opening half with a goal on a free kick in the 33rd minute to give JVC a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Waldner scored his second goal of the game on a pass from Fast in the 54th minute.
Jonah Niederbaumer inked the shutout in the net for the Vikings with 14 saves.
The Vikings will play their final home game of the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday against Dakota Valley.
