JVC boys claim title in 3,200 relay at Howard Wood

SIOUX FALLS — James Valley Christian led a strong contigency of local teams in the boys’ 3,200-meter relay on Friday during the opening day of the 92nd Annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays.
The Vikings turned in a time of 8:30.79 to win the Class B 3,200 relay. Members of the winning team were Michael Waldner, Braden Held, Kedric Brantner and Colton Schweigert.
Sunshine Bible Academy was sixth in the boys’ 3,200 relay at 8:45.99, while Sanborn Central-Woonsocket was ninth at 9:11.94 and Wolsey-Wessington was 14th at 9:37.02.
De Smet finished fourth in the Class B girls’ 3,200 relay with a time of 10:22.40. James Valley Christian was 10th at 10:32.71, while Sunshine Bible Academy was 11th at 10:34.89 and Wolsey-Wessington was 17th at 10:46.60.
Redfield-Doland’s Cooper Baloun turned in a time of 15.39 seconds to finish seventh in the boys’ 110 hurdles preliminaries. He repeated the feat in the semifinals to finish 13th.
Darrian Hood of James Valley Christian went 42 feet, 8.75 inches in the boys’ triple jump to finish 10th.
Jarek Kindle of Miller was 13th in the boys’ triple jump at 41-5.5.

No other area results from Friday’s portion of the event were available at press time.
Jasmyne Cooper of Sioux Falls Lincoln won the girls’ 800 special event with a time of 2:12.14. She edged Emily Kompeelien of Edina, Minn., by .06 seconds.
Denzel Brown of Eden Prairie, Minn., set a new meet record in winning the boys’ 200 special event. he had time of 21.36. Alex Brosseau of Legacy, N.D., was second at 22.08, followed by Cameron Kuil of Winner at 22.17.
