JVC boys fourth in invitational

HURON — The James Valley Christian Golf Invitational took place on Thursday at the Broadland Creek Golf Course, with several Heartland-area teams teeing it up over the 18-hole layout.
In the boys’ division, the Howard Tigers earned the team title with a score of 252 on the day, followed by Aberdeen Christian at 260 and Deubrook Area at 264.
The James Valley Christian boys took fourth place with a total of 269 points, in sixth place De Smet finished with 315 to edge out Sanborn Central-Woonsocket by one point at 316.
Deubrook Area topped the sheet in the girls team score, as only three schools fielded full teams. The Dolphins shot 263, Howard carded a 284 and De Smet was third with 313.
Aberdeen Christian golfer Judah Aderhold shot a 71 to take medalist honors, followed by Noah Hodges of Howard with a 78 and Deubrook Area’s Nick Olson.
James Valley Christian’s boys, were led by Carter Wells’ 86, Richard Rink took ninth with an 88, Ryan Stahl finished 16th with a 95, and Kevin Goertz tallied 99 points in nineteenth place.

Other Heartland finishers included Cody Cavanaugh, De Smet, 12th with a 90; 14th place went to Trent Kingsbury of Sanborn Central-Woonsocket with a 92; Dom Hansen of De Smet was 25th with a 108; 26th went to Cayden Slykhuis of SC-W with a 111, followed by teammate Nick Snedeker one place back with a 113, Tyler Eichacker of De Smet shot 117 to finish 30th and teammate Cade Burkel shot 120 to take 33rd and Sanborn Central-Woonsocket’s Nathan Linke finished 36th with a 133.
Deubrook Area teammates Courtni Frank and Maci Colberg finished 1-2 with scores of 79 and 89 in the girls’ division.
Savanna Vincent of De Smet was the top finishing Heartland-area golfer, shooting a 96 to finish fifth, while teammate Kennedy Ruml was 10th with a 103.
AbbyRose Miller of James Valley Christian shot 109 to finish 12th at the meet, while De Smet’s Gianna Janssen and Skylar Myer shot 114 and 117, respectively, to round out the Lady Bulldog scoring.
JVC and SC-W are back in action Tuesday at the 281 Conference meet in Wessington Springs, while De Smet plays at the Sioux Valley Invitational on Monday.
