JVC boys win Region 2B title

BROOKINGS — With two of the top three golfers in the field, James Valley Christian claimed the Region 2B boys’ golf title on Thursday at Edgebrook Golf Course.
The Vikings finished with a winning total of 249, which put them 14 strokes in front of runner-up Deubrook. Arlington was third with a 272, while Chester and De Smet rounded out the top five with scores of 279 and 281, respectively.
Wessington Springs was seventh at 310.
Austin Boomsma won the individual title for JVC with a score of 74, while teammate Carter Wells was third with an 84.
Chase McDonald of Chester was second with an 82, while Luke Urevig of Deubrook and Arlington teammates Nick Kersting and Trey Ramstad all had scores of 86.

Rhett Osthus of De Smet shot an 87 to share the seventh spot with Hash Colberg of Deubrook.
Rounding out the lineup for JVC were Jevin Goertz and Ryan Stahl with scores of 91 and 94, respectively.
Jacob Messmer of Wessington Springs and Cody Cavanaugh of De Smet both carded 96, while Cody Aughenbaugh of De Smet had a 98.
Deubrook won the Region 2B girls’ title with a 279. Flandreau was second at 286, followed by Estelline/Hendricks at 295, Howard at 303 and De Smet at 322. Wessington Springs was seventh at 378.
Courtni Frank of Deubrook was the top golfer in the girls’ field with an 87. She claimed the top spot via a scorecard playoff against Keva Burshiem of Flandreau, who also finished with an 87.
Grace Johanson of Flandreau was third at 90, followed by Mattie Nepodal of Deubrook at 91 and Piper Thompson of Howard at 95.
Kennedy Ruml of De Smet was 12th with a 105, while teammates Savannah Vincent and Skylar Meier finished at 108 and 109, respectively.
All the area golfers mentioned above will compete in the Class B State Meet, which is scheduled for June 3-4 in Yankton.
