JVC boys win title in Miller

MILLER — With four of the top five runners in the field, James Valley Christian claimed the varsity boys’ team title during the Miller Invitational on Monday at the Miller Golf Course.
The Vikings finished with 24 points to put them 43 points ahead of runner-up Sunshine Bible Academy.
Aberdeen Christian was three points back of SBA with 70 points, followed by Miller at 82 and Redfield-Doland at 93.
Daniel Ayoroa of James Valley Christian won the varsity boys’ race with a time of 17:34.27. He edged Jarret Haven of Northwestern, who had a time of 17:42.13, for the top spot.
Finishing in spots No. 3-5, respectively, for the Vikings were Colton Schweigert at 17:46.73, Braden Held at 17:51.76 and Darrian Hood at 17:55.52.
AJ Neely of Wessington Springs rounded out the top 10 in the 54-runner field with a time of 18:08.45.
Ipswich won the varsity girls’ title with a score of 33 points. Kimball/White Lake was second at 59, followed by James Valley Christian at 72, Redfield-Doland at 77 and Potter County at 95.
Jolie Dugan of Jones County won the girls’ varsity race in 19:40.86, while Jessica Boekelheide of Northwestern was second at 19:48.50
Ipswich teammates Aleah Steger and Tessa Kilber were third and fourth, respectively, with times of 19:59.11 and 20:33.47.
Madelynn Brantner of James Valley Christian was seventh at 21:09.98, while teammate Abby Hasart was eighth at 21:13.70.
Abby Ketelhut of Miller was 13th at 21:56.88, followed by Kyra Utecht of Redfield-Doland at 21:57.42.
