DE SMET — The James Valley Christian boys’ and the Deubrook Area girls’ track teams won titles during the De Smet Booster Club Relays held Thursday.
The Vikings finished with 102 points in the boys’ final standings to finish 40 points ahead of second-placed Hamlin, which had 62 points to edge De Smet by a point for the runner-up spot. Sioux Valley was fourth at 56, followed by Langford Area at 47.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 25-team meet were Redfield-Doland at 43; Miller at 41, Chester Area at 41, Lake Preston at 41 and Castlewood at 37.
The JVC boys won 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays, along with the medley relay.
Darrian Hood was first for the Vikings in the long jump and triple jump events.
Koby Spader won the shot put and discus events for De Smet.
Spens Schlicht won the 300 hurdles for Sanborn Central-Woonsocket.
Miller claimed top honors in both the 400 and 800 relays.
Deubrook Area had 105.5 points to win the girls’ team title, while Hamlin was second at 56. Lake Preston was third at 52.50, followed by Sioux Valley at 51 and Estelline/Hendricks at 49.
Wolsey-Wessington was sixth in the girls’ standings at 47, while Northwesten and Howard had 39 points to share the seventh spot. Chester Area and Flandreau were ninth and 10th, respectively, with scores of 34 and 33, respectively.
Taylor Sprecher won the discus for Wolsey-Wessington and was second in the shot put.
The Lady Warbirds were second in both the 800 and medley relays and were seventh in the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
Kadye Fernholz of Miller won the 100 hurdles.
