JVC girls, SCW boys win 281 titles


WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The James Valley Christian girls and the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket boys claimed 281 Conference cross country titles on Wednesday.

Paced by the medalist Abby Hasart in the girls’ varsity race, James Valley Christian finished with eight points to claim its fifth straight conference title. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was second at 17.

Hasart finished with a winning time of 21:41 for the Lady Vikings, while Rhayonna Hood was sixth  at 23:57 and AbbyKate Hamilton was eighth at 24:38.

Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold was second at 21:57, while Hanna Terkildsen of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was third at 23:17. Rounding out the top five were Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington at 23:17 and Ella Johnson of Hitchcock-Tulare at 23:38.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, which had a pair of runners in the top five, edge James Valley Christian by a point for the top spot in the final boys’ varsity standings. Wessington Springs was third, followed by Highmore-Harrold and Wolsey-Wessington.

Daniel Ayoroa of James Valley Christian won the boys’ varsity race in 18:38, while AJ Neely of Wessington Springs was second at 19:13. Braxton Gentles  and Jeff Boschee of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket were third and fourth, respectively, with times of 19:28 and 19:40.

Dawson Hale of Highmore-Harrold rounded out the top five at 20:14.
