JVC goes unbeaten on West River trip

The James Valley Christian Vikings boys’ soccer team split a pair of games over the weekend with one victory and one tie.

The Vikings were knotted at 0-0 at half with the Hot Springs Bison in Hot Springs on Friday before the Viking offense exploded in the second half to take a 4-1 victory.

The Vikings outshot the Bison 28-11. Gavin Walder had a pair of goals and an assist. Isaac Korell and Kolby VanderWerff each scored a goal.

Jonah Niederbaumer recorded five saves.

Niederbaumer and Skylar Thielbar scored goals to lead the junior varsity to a 2-0 victory. The JV squad is now 2-1-1.

In the second game, the Vikings held a 2-0 lead at half, but the Custer Wildcats were able to score three unanswered goals to open the second half. The Vikings scored in the 78th minute to secure a 3-3 tie Saturday in Custer.

JVC outshot the Wildcats 27-11. Waldner had a goal and an assist. Noah Fast scored on a penalty kick, and VanderWerff scored the final goal.

The Vikings (3-4-2) will host West Central Tuesday.
